Man and society

Ethics is the study of morals. Moral is a set of unwritten rules, which should influence our behaviour and show us the right way. Moral behaviour is based on principles of right and wrong behaviour and the difference between good and evil. Ethics is also called morality or moral law because it is about what is right and what I not, and how we decide what to do.

Right behaviour – help everybody, who needs our help

Wrong behaviour – stealing, murder, assault

Etiquette is a set of formal rules, which tell us, how to be polite in society.

Younger people greet older.

Ladies first.

In China is impolite, when somebody sees your slip sole. For him it is an insult.

In some countries people greet each other with kisses or hugging.

“Home” example is more important then anything else.

Man and nature

Man has always been dependent on the natural world surrounding him. Thousands of years ago he didn’t destroy nature, he used only what he needed: he cut wood to make a fire and killed animals to feed his family. Step by step he clear more land to build more houses, build factories to produce more good and build power station to produce more electricity. Then came the Industrial revolution and mankind has damaged and destroyed nature.

All life depends on three basic elements: air, water and soil. But nowadays the air, we breathe, the water, we drink, and the soil, we plant our foods in are all polluted.

All pollution is caused by chemical substances getting into our water, air and soil. We produce dangerous chemicals, radioactive particles and dangerous gases. Not only factories produce them, but products we use daily, too. The cars we use every day, pesticides, detergents, plastic bottles.  

The situation is critical. The weather has changed – more often we can see tornadoes, hurricanes, greenhouse effect. The polar icecaps are melting and sea levels are rising and scientist say that some seaside areas will be under the sea in the future. Earthquakes are more frequent.

There exist some organisations which inform people and try to help how they can. For example: Green Peace or Children of the Earth.

The future doesn’t look very well for the human race. We must find solutions to our ecological problems and try to save life on our planet.

Dinosaurs hadn’t polluted our planet and they were destroyed. I don’t see any reason, why we should alive if we will be as bad as we are now.

Multicultural society

Nowadays we more often hear about multicultural society. The reason is that we can travel everywhere. We can live almost everywhere. A multicultural society includes people from several different cultures, nationalities, languages.

Living in multicultural society has many advantages:

- We get know and understand several different ways of life

- We can learn more languages

- Other cultures bring other fashion, art, music, literature

Negative sides:

- Racism, intolerance, discrimination

- Dividing a society

- Expatriates – they will never really be part of society

There is one special ethnic group which can be found almost everywhere. The Romanies are originally from India, but they are travellers – they travel from place to place. They are musicians and fortune tellers. But I think that nowadays their lives are very different from their original culture.

When minorities have political representation and some laws (they can be educated in their language) then they are national minorities.
