Culture and art
The word “culture” has got several meanings. It may be used to speak about group of people with the same belief and attitudes, for example youth culture, political culture. But the word is also used to speak about music or literature.
The art is an expression of our feelings and opinions. It is a creation of something that is “aesthetically pleasing”, something that people like and admire. Unfortunately, not everybody was born with the ability to create and perform art. Those who have talent can become famous and rich.
We can divide art into some bigger parts: literature, music and dance, architecture, painting, films …
Painting. Painters paint different types of paintings – portraits, landscapes, abstract. It started in a stone age, when people painted on the walls of caves. There were simple drawings expressing hunting. The most famous draws from this age are in Lescaux in
Music is one of the oldest parts of art. We can divide music into three groups: classical music – Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, folk music and pop music, which we can listen to in the radio or television. Young people, who prefer pop music, like open-air festival – for example Bažant Pohoda. But I have never been on festival like this.
Dance started in prehistoric times, when people danced around the fire, when they wanted to celebrate successful hunting. Since that times passed many years. Nowadays we know classical ball-room dances: foxtrot, waltz, tango, rumba, cha-cha. There is also folk dance. Each country has typical costumes and dancing. Pop dance includes disco, hip-hop, rock, metal …
Architecture is also one of the oldest arts. In the 2nd century were built the most impressive and beautiful man-made objects in the world. These were called Seven Wonders of the World – Pyramids of Egypt, Lighthouse of Alexandria, The Hanging gardens of Babylon, The statue of Zeus at Olympia and some others like Stonehenge, The China wall … These are the oldest buildings and among modern buildings belongs The Sydney Opera House, CN tower in Toronto, skyscrapers, European Parliament…
Literature is a part of art, which includes novels, short stories, biographies, drama and poetry. Writers and novelists have a gift to put their ideas on paper and brilliantly create stories. If the book is well-written, it is a joy to read and hard to put down.
Many books have been created into films. Nowadays a lot of people stopped with going to the cinema, because every new film we can find on Internet sooner than it will be in cinema. And of course, because the tickets are expensive. I have new films from Internet, too and I do not go to our cinema, but if I were live in a bigger city, I would want to see first runs. But I don’t know what would be, if… People who live in bigger cities have more possibilities to go to the first run of film or to museum, theatre, opera-house… I think that nowadays is going to the theatre or opera-house only occasion to show “yeah I am rich and I have a lot of money for going here everyday”. Certainly exist people, who are really interested in it, but I think that they build only one small part of theatre-goers.
But not only theatre, museums and operas are advantages bigger cities. Young people can find there more disco-clubs, concerts…
